Ryft, are you claiming that it does make clear sense-in a way that a non-believer or follower of another religion would agree is sensible and defensible?

Yes, simply put the law is only there to define sin.
Once you see yourself in sin then you can seek atonement.
Once you have obtained atonement the law becomes a lipmus test to help you discern the nature of your relationship with God. It is not the means of Salvation.
In otherwords The Law is not a standard in which you have to perfectly or even closely keep as a way to earn heaven. None of the law passes away for it still defines sin, It's just no longer the means for the redeemed in Christ to earn Righteousness.
Righteousness is now a gift that can only be accepted/received. It is no longer earned so that no man can boast.

(The devastating "Chewbacca defense" from atheists. What a hoot.)
Unfortunately the Chewbacca defense is not a good judgment day defense strategy.

Yes. But I would not claim that Drich is providing it.

Neither have you. Curses and magical beasties remain utter garbage.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Can you explain how-in a way that a non-believer or a follower of another religion would find intelligible?

It is possible, yes, although how that explanation is fleshed out will obviously depend on the "non-believer or a follower of another religion" to whom I am speaking (e.g., the extent of background information they already possess, their willingness to understand, their specific confusion and degree thereof, and so forth).

It does not matter if your New Testament trumps your Old Testament. The Old Testament shit is still there, showing what kind of god you worship. I believe Jeffrey Dahmer converted to Christianity in prison, though I could have my stories crossed. Even so, does that negate everything that came before this change or can we still call Jeffrey a psychopath? I think we still can and that goes for your god too.

Or maybe we can look at the literary, linguistic and cultural context of all the books? Or is that too difficult?
I don't think Jewish folk consider their God a psychopath either.
Mary Immaculate, star of the morning
Chosen before the creation began
Chosen to bring for your bridal adorning
Woe to the serpent and rescue to man.
Sinners, we honor your sinless perfection;
Fallen and weak, for your pity we plead;
Grand us the shield of your sovereign protection,
Measure your aid by the depth of our need.
Bend from your throne at the voice of our crying,
Bend to this earth which your footsteps have trod;
Stretch out your arms to us, living and dying,
Mary Immaculate, Mother of God.

Yeah, they don't. That is why I do think the context is too difficult for Bible thumpers to comprehend. When you look at the context of the books, it becomes clear that they were written to keep an entirely different culture in line and yet you're marching to that same tune. Kind of a weird position to decide to be condescending from.
