Why not? any respect worth having is earned,it may not be demanded..

The only difference between a willfully ignorant old fool and a young one is the passage of time.

Bollocks; 'elderly' is anyone ten years or more older than myself. I'm 64,you don't qualify. I'm 64, you don't qualify. In reality, 'elderly' is state of mind. You certainly come across as an emitter of geriatric brain farts.

Nonetheless, average, I get that weird uncomfortable feeling like I'm being told what is convenient rather than what is the truth when I read your posts, so I think I will carry on as if you were ageless and sexless.

Sexless? What a pity. I was so hoping for a charity root. Tiger

As an aside to both involved in this post, and I have stated in other threads, I hate the word "respect". It is nothing but a childish claim of "don't bruise my ego".

So when people say "respect is earned not given"

I like to put it this way, "If you want me to VALUE the claim you make, don't demand I do by merely making a demand, make an argument"

Everyone on any position should VALUE the human right to make ANY claim they want. But they should not expect that merely the ability to put words together and string ANY sentence together should make that claim law that is unquestionable.

"Respect" is a hollow word it, it the cry of the Alpha male and not one person who has obtained power has ever lived forever. We can only value human rights. We can only value the common we know we have. Demanding conformity is nothing but schoolyard bullying.

Bollocks; value judgment . I don't allow others to decide what I 'should' think, say or do about anything. Nor do I accept the notion of innate rights of any kind.

The many rights I enjoy and deeply appreciate are established by custom and law,and maintained by custom and force of law. Those rights include not having to suffer fools. In my country, people do NOT have the right to make ANY claim they like,we have laws against hate speech.

Strictly speaking, they are not rights at all, they are privileges which can be removed at any time.

The US has long history of ignoring its own constitution for expedience. (so does Australia, though less often)

Yeah...I don't know about that one. There are some pretty stupid claims out there that demand to be blasted with both barrels.

Even Voltaire would have lost it with G-C and some of the other creatard lunatics.

You seem to hate a lot of words. Why are you so mad at words?

  1. Murder is a word.
  2. Murder is bad.
  3. Therefore, words are bad!
Abolish the word! Oh, shit, I just used a word! Damn it, I did it again - aaaaaaahhh!

Brian37, I find it interesting that you quoted a post that did not include the word respect, apart from the post of one individual, and then went on a rant at the posters regarding respect.

Language changes over time. I that sense I do not hate words. But some words have so much baggage and are abused, they either need to be more defined, re defined, or scrapped all together.

"Respect" far to often in my life, outside the net, with friends or bullies or bosses merely means "don't bruise my ego". When people do that they have no interest in listening, they either want to shut you off, or dominate you.
