RE: Ok.....So you killed off Religion...

From what I have observed of humanity in my short time on this earth, and from what I have learned from studying the history of humanity as well as the history of religion, it is always the religious people who do the most harm to society in the name of a deity. Religion is the opiate of the masses, its very nature allows humanity to act abhorrently toward others so long as the heinous behavior can be morally supported by doctrine. To the same unfortunate effect, religion makes the erroneous claim that people cannot be good without a magical sky daddy whispering platitudes into the ears of its followers and holding their hands to guide them along a moral path toward righteousness. It is basic sociology to understand and deem those religious people as psychotic, those who foresee themselves being downright malicious without a deity's presence.
Atheists understand and know that it is proper to be good for the sake of being good, not because a deity uses bribery to require goodness.

In England where I live the laws are already insisted upon by the police and government agencies, I know a lot of muslims do want sharia law put in place but luckily this hasn't happened yet.
Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Not much different than our present world, is my guess. The majority of the world identifies with some religion or at least professes to a belief in a god or gods, yet there exists so much pain and suffering and awful mistreatment of one another. In some cases this horrid behavior is a result of religious teachings or beliefs.
It seems to me that people will find a way to justify living the life they desire to lead. For most people, this means justifying a relatively virtuous life where they empathize with others and make small sacrifices to promote the well-being of their community and/or society. For others, it means justifying or rationalizing relatively poor behavior or masking it as some kind of virtue in order to fulfill their selfish desires. People do it today, whether they are religious or not. I expect that they'd do the same if there was no religion to hang their good or bad behavior on.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

Rondee, let me turn this back on you for a moment.
Lets say that god is 100% disproved by science. You no longer have any reason at all to believe.
Do you then turn around and begin murdering and raping because you no longer have a "moral guide"? Do you go crazy and do "whatever you want" simply because you now know that god doesn't exist? If not, them what would be guiding your actions?
Is god the only thing that is keeping you from doing these things? If so, you are a more fundamentally fucked up person that any atheist could ever hope to be.
I await your answer.

What about the mass killings going on in this country, schools, malls, theaters and ect. I have not heard of one who claimed a religious reason for killing. Seems to me the more God is being pushed out the worse things are becoming. Drugs are destroyers of a society and drugs are worse in and of themselves and in usage today than ever before and I know of no religious reason for there use, I did not have any when I used.

Strawman.
What about all the killings in Syria over religion. What about Shariah (sp?) law?
I would advise you not to bring up points like this. You will get it handed back to you a thousand times over.

Stop thinking in binaries, dude. There is, unfortunately, not a limited supply of atrocities from which secular and religious sources must both draw; crimes sans religious motive don't mean there are less crimes with religious motivations. Unhappily, both co-exist.
Hell, there's a thread in this very forum about a girl that was buried alive for offending a god in some innocuous way; I know you'll rush to point out that it's not your god involved, but that's missing the point, because as far as I can see there isn't any god at all. The harm caused by religion has nothing to do with god, just with religion itself, though one wonders why any extant god would allow itself to be represented the way some folks represent him.
Here's the facts: anyone causing harm in god's name is doing it for nothing.

This looks like a religious reason for killing to me.
