Have You Ever Cursed God?

It's a good way to show that he does indeed give people more than they can handle.

Yes, hundreds of times. It's probably common among people de-converting that have some type of militant religious person in their life, and feel the need to vent frustrations. I've never noticed anything. I've also sincerely invited Behemoth, Beelzebub, Azazel, Belial, Moloch, Belphegor, and Satan to hang out on many occasions (plus any other demon). I've also talked a lot of shit to them, and provoked them heavily. To my surprise, and contrary to ghost T.V. shows I've watched, I didn't get possessed, things didn't start flying around the room, I didn't see any hooded figures, and I didn't hear any demonic growls. I even invited the Succubus to come bang me, but she was probably with another client.

Nowadays, I don't waste much time doing that anymore. I think I proved to myself as much as I possibly could that there is nothing spooky watching me out there.
Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.' -Isaac Asimov-

Nope, not that I can recall. I could just about say "Fuck you God" but I couldn't blaspheme the holy spirit, even though I don't believe in god any more, because just in case that would be to totally burn my bridges.

If he's offended, he's keeping quiet about it.

I did get an email from God once:

"As has become clear, I can't actually do anything to you. And I don't even know where you are. But one day I'm gonna find out, and then I'll send some of my more unbalanced followers round to cause you some minor inconvenience!"

Minor inconveniences. HA! I'm gonna get you. sucka!Big Grin

Have you ever just said something to the effect of "Fuck you, god" just to show theists that you would not die?

If so, was your remark followed by the slightest crackle of lightning from on high?

For years, I've had a habit of coming up with creative ways to take God's name in vain. I would even do it recursively (God Christ it instead of God dammit). It's probably why this particular Penny Arcade comic made me laugh so hard:

Do you think cursing god publicly is the sine qua non or touchstone of a true atheist?

Of course my luck didn't change. No, I think I did this just as much when I was Christian. The only difference is I'd immediately feel guilty about it afterward.

I invited one of our resident jesus freak idiots to fervently pray for my death...and then bumped the thread every day to let him know that his god was telling him to go fuck himself.

You were too late. Someone else had already killed God with a paradox, and the prayer was lost during the reboot.

There you go. There's absolutely no difference between life as a Christian and life after de-conversion. Except my de-conversion came around my 40th birthday, the decade of serenity.

Fuck the holy spirit right up the ass.  You can't burn bridges to imaginary places.
There is nothing demonstrably true that religion can provide mankind that cannot be achieved as well or better through secular means.

I know, but I still can't bring myself to do it. Perhaps it would be therapeutic if I did.
