Religions were invented to impress and dupe illiterate, superstitious stone-age peasants. So in this modern, enlightened age of information, what's your excuse? Or are you saying with all your advantages, you were still tricked as easily as those early humans?

Yeah, I wonder what the world would be like if Christianity gave more weight to what Jesus said... the words in red as it were... than anything else in the Bible... used his words to override contradictory stuff. Very different I'd imagine.

Remember when Jesus told the woman that was almost stoned to death by the mob to go and sin no more? It's just like that. She experienced Salvation direct from Jesus, and then went on and sinned no more.
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

Is anyone really gullible enough to believe she sinned no more? I mean, coveting is a sin and we literally can't NOT covet. That was probably the biggest tip-off to young me that the whole thing was horseshit.

I mean, literally, if she dropped dead the moment he finished that sentence, she would have still committed at least one sin before her light switch went all the way off. I don't trust anything that puts such unrealistic expectations on people or intentionally stacks the deck like that. And I was a child when I figured this out.

The idea must have been to reduce the amount of "coveting" that led to internecine squabbles.....but, you know, clay tablets were in short supply, semi-literate scribes were thin on the ground....and whomever was putting this shit together could only afford to post so many characters....

So much of the strangeness of religion can be explained by asinine shit like that. You know? Un-profound..just a budget restriction on some poor nutter somewhen.
