What is your opinion on Flat Earth theory?

RE: What is your opinion on Flat Earth theory?
No-one panic. But this is the latest Nasa video explaining how we get day/night cycles. The earth really is flat! I'm serious! Please don't start trolling me just because it conflicts with your round earth fairy tale!

^^I don't know what's stupider the flat Earth model or the fact that person that made the gif was too stupid to make it seem perpetual instead of "sun" suddenly jumping on the opposite side of the gif.

You know few months ago Shaquille O'Neal made a mistake joking that he thinks the Earth is flat so he had to make another video saying that he was only joking, but if you look at the comments you can see flat-earthers boiling in anger saying that he is Freemason so they shush him up; that because he is in "cabal of worshiping the sun" and so on.

In other words not so much different then Jesus freaks who also freak out similar way when you tell them Jesus is fake like "you worship atheism" or that Carl Sagan was (according to them) Freemason; or like Ken Ham called new "Cosmos" worshiping of stellar bodies.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

My opinion on Flat Earth 'Theory' is that it's only taken seriously by flat heads.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

It is neither a theory, nor a hypothesis. It's a test to see just how gullible someone is and how easily misled they are by conspiracy claims that have no evidence, yet there is a seemingly infinite amount of evidence disproving this particular "claim". Honestly, I doubt that most people who push this claim forward actually believe it themselves. While it's impossible to say for certain whether or not someones professed beliefs are something which they actually believe, there are certainly a great deal of people who say things just to be contrarian, or to troll, or even get rich off the minds of the credulous.

Meh, they're not harming anyone. I certainly don't agree with it but they're fine by me.

"They're not harming anyone".

I beg to differ. Some of these people actually want this sort of thing taught in public schools just like there are those who want creationism taught in public school. That is a threat to our nations sanity. I don't agree with them either, but when someone has an idea that stupid and extreme, they deserve to get laughed at and called all the names in the book.

Why shouldn't creationism be taught in public schools? I think children should be taught different ideas and let them make up their own minds instead of shoving one idea down their throats.

Again, flat earthers aren't harming anyone whatsoever, but instead you decided to go on a rant and take a dig at creationists.

Are you serious? Creationism has zero scientific backing. That sort of shit belongs in one place only, and that is a church. You would really do those kids a fucking disservice by teaching such non sense. What if someone decided that was actually fact? They would be really fucked!

I don't know how your country does things but in primary school (a Catholic one, funnily enough) and then later high school (non-religious) I was taught different theories, including evolution and creationism. We also got taught the basics about various religions, denominations and even atheism was discussed.

I do not see the problem with that.
