Launching into a hissy fit and wrecking your stuff because the wife says things you don't like isn't manly or masculine, at all.  It's not somehow built into the gender. 

Yeah, I think it is.  Not all men have these feelings or act in the way I described.  But it's not like you are all surprised to hear that a man has a temper, either.  "Oh my gawwwd. . . What's he even TALKING about!?!?!?"

Simply blocking a doorway with no physical act or threat is not a criminal offense. 

I believe that blocking any citizen's ability to move freely constitutes arrest, and that preventing someone from leaving a building by blocking a door constitutes false imprisonment.

That being said, I'm not sure about the legality of pushing someone out of the way in order to move freely-- in the case of a husband and wife, I'd be very surprised if touching her at all in that state wouldn't end up in a domestic abuse charge.

 

Yes, if you touch her when she is physically preventing you from leaving, you will be in one hell of a lot of trouble.
When a man that you are in a confrontational situation with pulls the ultra aggressive dick move of blocking you when you are trying to walk away, he is demanding physical action.
When your wife does it, she's doing the same thing. The difference is that she knows that it is you who will be in a lot of trouble if you get physical. It's the exact same ultra aggressive dick move, but her calculus is a little different than the man's, since the man knows that he isn't going to get to play the victim if you get physical with him. So in a way, it is even more of a dick move when a woman does it.
You seem like a guy who is man enough to walk away. But if you have a wife who is doing this dick move when you try to walk away, then there is a chance that you are going to be in a lot of trouble some day, because your wife is not letting you walk away when you know that you need to.
You really do need to talk with her about that, and try to get her to understand that she shouldn't be using the dick move.

It may also be a way of trying to calm the person down.

Either way...it's a toxic relationship if one feels they have to block someone else's exit and the other thinks throwing electronics around is normal human behavior.

Oh we've talked about it plenty. I explained what kinds of situations make me feel most frustrated. I've told her what I will say and do when I feel we're getting to that point. I'm much more patient with her, and she's much more understanding of the ways in which we can / can't communicate well.

She's also seen the other side of rage-- like the time I ran into an abandoned building to confront some gangster who was roughing up what I'd assumed to be a prostitute. If I wasn't enraged, I couldn't have acted that way-- and he wouldn't have let me. I'd have to ask her specifically, but I think she understands that there's a gorilla in me that comes out sometimes. And I might be wrong-- but I think most wives have seen something like that, and know that about their husbands as well.

I should point out, by the way, that I've never hit my wife, ever. I'm not shouting "You burned the fucking macaroni again!" and beating the shit out of her.

Actually, I am not.  I lived that shit growing up and in a couple shit relationships.  

I am a walk away kind of person because I learned long ago that things cannot be unsaid and I tend to go for the verbal hit...and I seldom miss.  That was learned years ago also.  Remove myself and/or shut my mouth.
