You CANNOT just walk into Walmart - or any other FFL dealer - simply pay cash and walk out with a gun IN ANY STATE.

This is simply incorrect. I’ve watched multiple people buy guns the same day they walked into the store. You can purchase a gun as soon as the background check passes; there is no federal law requiring you to wait and only certain states have mandated waiting periods.

If your NICS check commes back negative - you aint getting a gun.

If your NICS check bounces every time - blame computers.

You probably have a fairly common name - and someone with the same name is a criminal.

You can apply for a special ID number through NICS - which you use with future purchases - and the NICS won' t bounce on you anymore.
Ive been told by multiple gun dealers that getting a UPIN doesn’t necessarily guarantee you’ll instantly be approved. Though I admit I’ve never applied for one, nor do I have any interest in doing so. I don’t mind waiting 3 days.

I get delayed every time I buy a firearm, even though I have friends who have walked in and instantly bought one.

And you don't see that as a problem?

I was unaware of that.  I've been under the impression that you could walk into a WalMart, put down your money and walk out with a shotgun.  No?

The safety course requirements are attached to use permits in most cases, rather than purchase.  Private sale restrictions run the gamut of being explicit to being implied.  There's no state where it's legal to knowingly transfer a firearm to a prohibited buyer...but only half the states require licensed third party checks.  Waiting periods vary by state and firearm (and are heavily tilted towards handguns).

No, Walmart will run a check.  Though IDK if checks on shotgun purchases really matter. They're not well represented on trace data. Believe it or not, this is one area where Walmart is probably better than independent dealers.  It's easier to talk a dealer into a big purchase than some minimum wage desk clerk who won't benefit from the sale. Our gun problem, and no data has ever found otherwise, isn't a sales problem at all. The areas where the most guns are bought and sold and owned have the lowest rates of gun crime. This isn't due to guns reducing crime, they don't, it's just the simple fact of the vast majority of gun owners not being criminals of any kind. This is why people from those areas freak out about gun reg talk. Enhanced regs of the sort commonly thrown around will impact them, but won't effect the change we seek through gun reform.

The wording of your question clearly implied you already knew the answer. Your consistent arrogance is astounding, especially considering how ignorant you actually are to what the laws are here in the US. Shouldn’t be surprised that someone on the internet is talking out of their ass, I suppose.

I’ll say this, I have no issue with a federally mandated waiting period; I don’t have high hopes it will actually accomplish much, but at the point where school shootings are about as common as the weather report, something needs to be done. The NRA is insane though, so good luck doing anything about our current gun laws.

It’s a shame.

The NRA isn't insane, it's a business, like the Corleones.
