Zeus was one of those gods who might turn into a swan to rape you. Or a golden shower.
I don't think gods were necessarily a stupid idea when we came up with them, btw. In a time when we didn't know what was happening when we were dreaming, a supernatural side to things must have seemed very real. Who was to say then that what happened to you in your dreams didn't really happen somewhere 'out there'? I think there was a lot of allegorical and symbolic thinking going on that wasn't intended to be taken so literally. I don't have to believe Aesop's Fables are true accounts to get what the moral lesson is supposed to be.
