Social distancing vs a day at the beach

The chief difference is that OLB got excoriated as a bigot. Why is it that when Pakistanis are called out for idiotic behaviour it’s bigotry, but when Californians are called out for EXACTLY the same behaviour, it just leads to a discussion of beach safety?

Boru

You know why, Boru. Stop this pretense, dude. And for the record, if you single out Californians as the problem behind this crisis, it's still considered bigotry, lol. It's just perhaps nobody gives a shit when it's about mainly white privileged who don't have to deal with hate crimes because of the color of their skin.

Here's the thing. Context matters. Motivation matters. Nuance matters. Pakistan is a country of predominately BROWN people, common targets of xenophobia. A privileged Western white dude is posting about Pakistan expressing how much it sucks for behavior that people in Western countries are also doing. It would've been different if it was a Pakistani dude doing it in a Pakistani forum.

Your thread is also clearly a parody. Another difference.

Also, posting history matters as well.

Do I need to explain more?

Oh, oh, oh - - - me, me, me...if it's brown people it's a lot worse than if it's white privileged people - 'cause that not racist or classist at all.

Fuck you.

What kind of feckless troll picks saltwater and sunlight, lol?

Adding to the benefits of sunlight and saltwater, other coronaviruses appear to be sensitive to temperature, diminishing during the summer months. Sand gets unbearably hot this time of year. I wouldn't be surprised if it reaches the threshold that renders the virus inactive.

In other words you're probably better off walking barefoot at the beach (if you can manage) than wearing shoes to an air conditioned grocery store and bringing it into your house. So yes, it's paranoia.

Why yes, a large package of toilet tissue would be nice.

When you make a negative comment on a group of people whose tribe you don't belong to, there's a good chance it will either be received negatively, or that it stems from negative feelings towards that group of people.

I'm not a racist but ... <goes on to say something racist>

But ... but ... Grandizer that's not racism!!! He didn't say all Iranians!!!

ETA:

Better way of wording this (if you have to):

I'm hearing of some people in Iran licking <whatever it is they're licking> at mosques. This is crazy. People (not just in Iran but everywhere else) need to stop being idiots and take this shit seriously.

I know, I know, PC sucks and all. But in times especially like these (and in all times actually), let's be more mindful of how we criticize people of "outsider" groups.

Exactly what the left wants. Basically keep our mouth shut and do not comment on anybody other than your own (insert race, colour, religion, ethnicity) otherwise we're in the wrong.

Do you not see how that is just as wrong but on the extreme other end? I do Dunno

PC is a left concept through guilt to force society to self regulate each other. I'm not buying into it.
I was a good person before all this PC shit and I'm still a good person now. Nothing has changed. Only political perception via political manipulation.

What does "good person" even mean exactly here, though? I mean, sure, you haven't murdered anyone or did anything of the sort, and you perhaps donate to charity and help family and all that, but are you trying to tell me you're void of racial biases and such? That you're "race-blind"? That the way you word things to implicitly make it about them being Iranians isn't impacted by your biases about them (biases that you may not be aware of)?

I can tell you I'm definitely not void of these biases. All the more reason why I have to be more mindful of what I say about large diverse groups that also happen to be common targets of prejudice and bigotry.

Again, if you must criticize, do it in a fair and very inclusive manner. My suggestion, take it or leave it.
