Signed the gun industry
BINGO!
I forgot which mass shooting it was, I've lost count. But after one of these events a local gun shop owner was interviewed by a local station and commented " I feel sorry for them, but sales are going up now". How fucking sick is that?
But especially the CEOs of these companies. They are a business just like any other so their job is to please the shareholders and expand the market to attract more investors. They don't give one fuck about how many get slaughtered, they only care about profits.

It' s because a school is a soft target. I.e. lotsa easy targets that won' t fight back.
...
So - how do you change that?
I suspect that trying to make schools a harder target might be the tactic that does the least good in the long run. Even if we actually find a way that works, they might find another soft target. For when your weather gets better -
I agree with a fair bit - but psych evals for ownership are crap. It is far more likely that someone who is legial for gun ownership would be denied than a whackadoodle sneaking through. Doctors with an axe to grind - ex spouses looking for revenge - ect...
You misunderstand due to digital thinking. I am NOT asking to throw more guns at the problem. Arming teachers who are not trained isn' t good. Nor is hiring minimum wage rent a cops. I am not in favor of metal detectors and other such invasive shit - teaching kids to live in a prison.
My point?
A bunch of anti- gun idiots " had to do something" - so they went ahead and made " gun free zones" patted themselves on the back and went to Starbucks for 5 dollar coffee and masturbation ( or whatever the fuck they do there)
They CREATED the problem - deny all credit - and now they want to " do something about it" again.
The solution?
Quit pretending those signs work - for starters.

Yes, the fact that many of these mass shooters off themselves kinda burns a huge gaping hole in that idea. Best case scenario, the threat of someone armed shooting them makes them try to outsmart security and try to get at least one shot in before anyone’s the wiser. And once the shooting starts, it can be very hard to get the sort of handle on the situation that allows for taking out the shooter.
And, for the record, Biker, I have NEVER been one to believe slapping a “gun free zone” sticker actually works. It’s just an extremely lazy form of security theater.

I have no problem with someone errantly being denied a gun. That's reversible error. A dead child is not.

And one other point I thought of to add to the things to do: in addition to a psych eval before one can get a gun, perhaps a scan of the applicant's social media (ideally with a combination of an algorithm and human eyes to double-check and see whether anything the algorithm sees) would help fill in some of the cracks. If they talk about wanting to commit violence or if they talk about believing in a conspiracy theory that's already led to a lot of violence (especially if violence is really the logical end of thwarting said conspiracy, like with the "great replacement" killers in Christchurch and Buffalo), they don't get a gun, even if they're able to hide their power levels to the shrink.

Good god, we can’t even blame the parents anymore? It’s……signs…..making these guys shoot up schools?
Easy fix. Ban all signs.
