I'm tempted to label this a "non-sequitur" but perhaps you can explain why forgiveness = thinking yourself equal or holding a grudge = thinking yourself superior. And maybe we can tie all that into the prerequisite ritual of bleeding on a cross?

why bother? Every time I exchange words with the man - it's like being hit in the ear with a hammer. Like Statler, he sees what he wants and ignores what he cannot explain.

He "quotes" GOD for fucks sake! Where pray-tell do you get actual quotes from god about F. Nietzsche and strolls through hell?? There's a reason why even their own god calls them sheep!

Christ lowered Himself to the status of a man, Christ said that He came not to be served but to serve. See any similarity between this statement and my above statement.
To hold a grudge against someone a person believes he/she is superior to the offender, this is a natural thing with humans, also the offender feels superior to the one offended, that's the result of an action that offends. To forgive should not necessarily mean the offender ask for forgiveness, true forgiveness is given not asked for, for that to happen one will have to humble him/herself and leave the feeling of superiority behind. Christ dying on the cross was not a ritual, He humbly bleed to death for us, He gave us forgiveness by humility.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

I'm still unsure about lots of stuff. Cool Shades

I've had no 'road to Damascus' experience. I have a yearning to know God, my Creator, and try as I might to ignore it, or give it a back seat, it comes to the fore. It's like an irresistable 'drawing'. When I read about the person and life of Yeshua (Jesus in Aramaic), it cries out 'truth' to me. A few years ago, I 'asked' Jesus - if He was real (I explained that I wasn't sure if He existed), that He would save me and my family and bring us into His Kingdom. My dad died in April, and I have a hope of being reunited with my dad (My dad believed in Jesus).

So, I have a hope that whispers: eternity with my Creator Jesus and my family. That hope has got much stronger lately. Also, I've been reading some articles on ancient Hebrew culture and language, and things are more in 'colour' now, whereas before they were more grey. Big Grin

So, nothing then. Fine.

Just to be clear, you asked Jesus if he was real and if he would save you, and then your Dad died....and this STRENGTHENED your conviction? Can you explain to me how that works?

God obviously doesn't like to be bothered about that eh?
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

It's actually fairly telling what's happened here. CoxRox has suffered a setback and has actually said that her 'hope' has got much stronger recently. Confirmation bias at work, I believe.

CR, I don't mean to use your father's unfortunate and no doubt untimely death as a stick to jab you with here, but why was it something that strengthened your conviction? Or rather, having asked Jesus to prove his worth to you, what would've had to have happened for you to stop believing? Because it seems like the exact opposite of what you asked for happening (ie keeping your family safe) would be about as clear a sign that nobody's listening, or that if there is, they aren't altogether that bothered about your well being, nor that of your family.

CoxRox, suppose heaven and hell are real. Now suppose that you die and go to heaven only to find out that your dad was sent to hell for some things that you didn't even know about. Not horrific things, just thought crimes for which he never specifically asked forgiveness. Would you still be able to enjoy eternal paradise knowing that your father, and perhaps other loved ones were spending an eternity in torment?
