So if Mr. God is so smart, why didn't he make Jesus the first person? I don't get god. He seems about as logical as ancient desert tribesmen.

Understanding what motivates Yahweh or Satan is very difficult if they are real and rational actors in competition with one another over the universe.
Understanding what motivates Yahweh or Satan is effortless if they are understood as contrived fictional characters designed by a religion to control the faithful.

Great Frodo, "lots of historians" agree. It should be easy to provide the evidence that convinced them.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence - Carl Sagan
Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity.
Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.
You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.

In the entirety of my life as a deist, I have never asked God a single question. I think talking to myself is pointless. (and actually even as a christian, I found it to be very weird and one sided)
Thanks for clarifying that. I suppose I was implying that during your 'transition' from Christian to deist, you 'asked' if Jesus was real.
The transition didn't actually go from christian to deist. It was a long drawn out exchange that went from christian to agnostic to atheist to taoist to agnostic and finally to deist (which I thought was just a theist because I didn't know the term deist existed, even though I had been one for a couple years without knowing it)
Anyway, to be clear, the only time I ever THOUGHT I was talking to jesus is the dozen different times I got "saved". The rest of the times I prayed, I thought I was praying to god through jesus ... at least thats how I was told it worked. Doesn't really matter - neither god nor jesus EVER spoke to me and it's wishful thinking (and childish) to believe that you have an invisible friend who cares about your daily errands, your lost car keys, and your flaring hemorrhoids.
What you "feel" is only what you WANT to "feel". (the same way I WANT to believe in a God that created the universe. Feelings are not evidence of the holy spirit hanging out on your shoulder for your entire lifetime.)

And yet...when you ask them for evidence they get strangely quiet. Could that be because they too were brought up having this shit shoved down their throats?

No. A lot of historians.
Really?
Which ones?

I don't need to prove God exists. The question wasn't "Is God real?" the question was "WHY does blood sacrifice bring any atonement for our sins?"
By asking this question it is already assumed that God is real and that Biblical answers are an option, since the Bible talks about God.
I'm glad I could help you understand that, we all need help sometimes.
