If American workers are hired to build it, this would be a great investment to put Americans to work and the money would be reinvested in the local economies. Or Mexico could build it and put their citizens to work to help build their local economy. This is just the start of infrastructure spending and putting citizens back to work and building local economies. It's ironic because Mexico is building their own wall to keep migrants from traveling through Mexico into the US, so not only would our wall help the US, it would help Mexico. It's a win win situation! Mexico builds its own wall against migrants Pressure builds for measures to stem flow of refugees from the south heading for US https://www.ft.com/content/c316294a-7915...7294649b28 (January 26, 2017 at 1:55 pm)scoobysnack Wrote:(January 26, 2017 at 1:28 pm)Catholic_Lady Wrote: For those who support the wall... To clarify, are you saying then that the wall is a good idea only because it would give people a job while they build it? If so, is it reasonable to pay billions to build useless things only so that people will get paid doing it?
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

...Aren't the majority of illegal immigrants simply here on expired work visas or something of that type? Meaning they entered the country legally? How would a wall stop that?
And how would it stop...y'know, planes?

LOL, the wall-as-infrastructure. Sure.....just as soon as we get the roads and bridges and grids handled....we can build a wall to separate nitwits from whatever portion of reality they fear.
There's clearly no point in asking how the wall would work, no one cares - certainly not the trumpsters. It's not meant, primarily, to keep people out, it's meant to keep them -in-..... their comfort bubble. There are barbarians raping and pillaging, so we need a wall, and whatever we have to do to get that wall is just what we have to do. We have to do something!
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Scoobysnack isn't exactly the brightest person on the planet. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parable_of...ken_window Quote:The parable of the broken window was introduced by Frédéric Bastiat in his 1850 essay Ce qu'on voit et ce qu'on ne voit pas (That Which Is Seen and That Which Is Not Seen) to illustrate why destruction, and the money spent to recover from destruction, is not actually a net benefit to society. The parable, also known as the broken window fallacy or glazier's fallacy, seeks to show how opportunity costs, as well as the law of unintended consequences, affect economic activity in ways that are "unseen" or ignored. It would be about as useful. Hey look, the Mexican President has cancelled the meeting with Trump http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-38760671 Guess he won't be bullied into paying for this stupid project so easily.

So we have money to spend on a useless wall... but we have no money to spend on healthcare, education, the arts, the environment, or grants for violence against women? Get the fuck out of here fuckwits.
