The Universe DOES exist with no grand purpose. Purpose is a notion that humans have invented for their convenience. Speaking of such a thing as purpose of your life, there isn't one unless you state it yourself. It's basically one of very few things one can do that get as close to the idealized 'Free Will' as possible. But remember, you live not in a sterile room but rather on a battlefield for survival and dominance where there are local purposes dictated by the laws of nature so if you don't state your purposes for yourself than someone may state them for you to take advantage of your ignorance and/or inaction. Which happens all the time. Just look at all those people buying into cheap afterlife chill pills.

The assumption that others think pretty much like I do.
Snowtracks extrapolates beyond where he can show justification: that because he has purpose and he infers from observations that other people have purpose, then the universe itself must also have purpose.
Fallacy of composition: just because part of the universe (himself) has purpose, it does not follow that the universe itself has purpose.
He's honest, but unsupported (wrong.)
So how, exactly, does God know that She's NOT a brain in a vat?

"Purpose" is a human-made concept, which only exists in our minds. A product of neurological processes undoubtedly essential to our evolution and existence as sentient apes, but completely meaningless - or rather non-existent, since "meaning" is also such a concept - in terms of the nature of the universe. We may naively try to apply the rules that govern our brains to non-sentient objects and systems - in fact this is what children do, when they draw a personified sun with a smiley face - but it's unlikely to give us any actual insight into the "workings" of the cosmos and its physics. No more than a child's drawing does. Or ramblings of bronze age mad-men, for that matter.
So yeah - universe has no purpose, because nothing has a purpose, except in our humanoid minds, in order for us to remember what object to use for what activity. You're simply imagining a big, big human somewhere out there, who's using the universe for something. It's cute perhaps, but only when children do it.
