Any medical doctor or ME can tell you physically how painful drowning is. For someone to claim the flood was justified is to justify torture not only on top of being mass genocide. And a very hypocritical thing for an "all loving" god to do if one is going to claim he is "all powerful" and "poofed" everything into existence. Why all the drama? It would seem to me that you would be compassionate about punishment instead of an act of revenge which is what the flood story depicts.

There was great evil in Noah's Day. God is the giver of life and He also can allow it to be taken away. Sin is a very serious thing to God.

Serious question rev. When God created the animals, he saw that they were good. Man fell, no longer good. So why did he kill all the good animals along with the bad people? Why not make it a species specific apocalypse?

I never thought of that, good question. I don't believe that God addresses that. I do know that God gave dominion to man over everything on earth and when he failed He purged everything? That is a guess though, I am not sure.

Revelation, the Bible isn't proof of anything. It's a book that is used to indoctrinate people to believing things that have no proof. Faith is not about proof, really. When I was a Christian, I invested time like you, trying to get people to see my points. But, truth is...the Bible is only relevant to a believer. You believe that a god exists, because the Bible states it. You have been indoctrinated to believe this, at some point in your life. Like many of us, myself included, I was indoctrinated into religion as a kid. But, a few years ago, I decided to look into things more objectively.

The Bible isn't proof of anything. It's just a book that you use as a crutch to justify why you believe what you do. It's not a historical account of anything, although there are places and events that did happen in the Bible, serving as backdrops for the fairy tale stories that are depicted throughout. But, barring that, the Bible isn't evidence of anything. At best, it was mankind's way of explaining what it didn't understand about the universe and mankind. At the worst, it's all just a lie.

I choose to think it's something in between.

How so, Rev? How is your set of rigorous, ritualistic beliefs in a deity and an afterlife not religion?

And, moreover, are you saying that your particular brand of belief is not responsible for evil in this world? A lot of it?

My definition of religion is man's effort in trying to have a relationship with God. Having a relationship with Christ because He sought me out and I opened my heart to Him is what I believe in. There is a great gulf between a person who proclaims to be a Christian and a genuine one.
