Quote:Finkelstein specializes in Middle Eastern archaeology of the ancient history of the Land of Israel. He is critical of scholars who read the results of their excavations as confirming the biblical narratives of conquest. One of his most controversial theories is his description of 10th century BCE Jerusalem, the period associated with the biblical kings David and Solomon, as a "small hill town, with a modest palace and royal shrine."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bible_Unearthed

Quote:A review of the book by fellow archeologist William G. Dever published in the Biblical Archaeology Review and subsequently in the Bulletin of the American Schools of Oriental Research, resulted in heated exchanges between Dever and Finkelstein. Dever's review noted that the book had many strengths, notably archaeology's potential for re-writing the history of "Ancient Israel", but complained that it misrepresented his own views and concluded by characterizing Finkelstein as "idiosyncratic and doctrinaire"; Finkelstein's reaction was to call Dever a "jealous academic parasite," and the debate quickly degenerated from that point.

Quote:The Great Pyramid consists of an estimated 2.3 million blocks which most believe to have been transported from nearby quarries. The Tura limestone used for the casing was quarried across the river. The largest granite stones in the pyramid, found in the "King's" chamber, weigh 25 to 80 tonnes and were transported from Aswan, more than 800 km (500 mi) away.

If you believe an stone weighing 80 tonnes was pushed up a ramp, than the concept of "Faith" should be right up your alley.

Oh my god (pun intended). Present at least a challenging argument.

I know the discovery channel is full of reruns, but that's also the beauty of it. They're running documentaries about building the pyramids at nauseam.

Otherwise, google is your friend.

Facepalms! there's no mystery about how they did it. There are workers villages unearthed and as opposed to bible idiocy, they didn't use slaves to do the job, but highly trained and paid professionals. It was the most important job in ancient egypt. On a side note to those actually wanting to employ their brain: There are a whole lot of inscriptions being found, about how the workers were organised and how they called themselves. These inscriptions show, there was a fierce competition going on between the different work gangs. And yes, they had the best available health care of the time, provided by Pharao.

Just do some fucking reading or fire up your television.

Your article says nothing about how the stones were lifted up the pyramid, it just has theories about how a stone (only weighing 2.5 tons mind you) was transported across the desert using sleds.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morni...echnology/
Quote:They likely wet the sand. “For the construction of the pyramids, the ancient Egyptians had to transport heavy blocks of stone and large statues across the desert,” the university said. “The Egyptians therefore placed the heavy objects on a sledge that workers pulled over the sand. Research … revealed that the Egyptians probably made the desert sand in front of the sledge wet.”

Except this theory doesn't work for the pyramids located in central America.

Because I'm too damned lazy to answer Bullshit in a more detailed manner:

http://news.discovery.com/history/ancien...140502.htm

http://news.psu.edu/story/141300/2008/03...mids-built

That's just the first two results of 32.300.000 results to the google question: Pyramids, how they were built.

Read some of them or stay ignorant. I really don't care.

We were talking about Egyptian pyramids and suddenly we're onto the pyramids of the Americas. Talking about moving the goal posts.

So, what are you claiming?

Magic skywizard moved them?
Aliens?

One of the things modern people do a lot of is to frequently denigrate the abilities and achievements of our ancestors.

How the American pyramids were made, I don't know: I haven't studied those. I'm more interested in European/Middle Eastern Archaeology.

I'm sure enough research will find an article explaining it.

Humans can achieve a hell of a lot with muscle power. Look at the Egyptian obelisks.

If there is no mystery then how come moving an 80 ton stone 500 miles and lifting it 100 meters or so, without modern equipment, has never been demonstrated.

part of the scientific method is to test your hypothesis right? All I want to see is where this has actually been demonstrated.
