Islam is the real deal

Even if Allah is real:

1) It punishes people for not submitting to it. That makes it a dick unworthy of my attention.

2) It has no noticeable effect on reality.

So I feel pretty safe ignoring the fantastical claims of Islam, whether they are true or not.

As it happens, the exact same argument works against Christianity as well. And point 2 applies to every religion.

I'm not saying you must believe in it , but there are miracles in the Qur'an. I'm not a scientist nor a perfect Muslim who knows everything about the Islam . I can consult Internet resources. But if you really want to know it, read a lot about the Islam and the Koran , and then compare it with the science. Then you'll believe it or think it's still bullshit, but don't waste your time on this pointless discussion.

There are miracles in many works of fiction. So what?

I have read many of these supposed claims and none stand up to scrutiny. All have been vague, post-hoc explanations, no better than a horoscope saying "today, beware as something bad will happen!" Which could be anything from a hangnail to getting cancer. 

Why don't you pick the one, best example and show all us infidel scum how great this Mo man and his invisible god are? If it's so awesome, this ought to be easy to do.

If an atheist says I don't believe it then I would understand him completely . Your name says that you are a Christian then you have believed your whole life a lie.

The Seas not Mingling with One Another

One of the properties of seas that has only recently been discovered is related in a verse of the Qur'an as follows:

"He has let loose the two seas, converging together, with a barrier between them they do not break through."
(The Qur'an, 55:19-20)

This property of the seas, that they come together yet do not mingle with one another at all, has only very recently been discovered by oceanographers. Because of the physical force called "surfacetension", the waters of neighboring seas do not mix. Caused by the difference in the density of their waters, surface tension prevents them from mingling with one another, just as if a thin wall were between them.

The interesting side to this is that during a period when people had no knowledge of physics, surface tension, or oceanography; this was revealed in the Qur'an.

Iron is one of the elements highlighted in the Qur'an. In Surat al-Hadid, meaning Iron, we are informed:And We also sent down iron in which there lies great force and which has many uses for mankind… (Qur'an, 57:25)

The word "anzalna," translated as "sent down" and used for iron in the verse, could be thought of having a figurative meaning to explain that iron has been given to benefit people. But, when we take into consideration the literal meaning of the word, which is, "being physically sent down from the sky," as in the case of rain and Sun rays, we realize that this verse implies a very significant scientific miracle. Because, modern astronomical findings have disclosed that the iron found in our world has come from giant stars in outer space.38

Not only the iron on earth, but also the iron in the entire Solar System, comes from outer space, since the temperature in the Sun is inadequate for the formation of iron. The sun has a surface temperature of 6,000 degrees Celsius, and a core temperature of approximately 20 million degrees. Iron can only be produced in much larger stars than the Sun, where the temperature reaches a few hundred million degrees. When the amount of iron exceeds a certain level in a star, the star can no longer accommodate it, and it eventually explodes in what is called a "nova" or a "supernova."

We have a thread about the "parting of the seas".  Sorry, no dice.  There is no such barrier.  Further, nothing was revealed to the writers of the quran that a person with a cup of water and a straw couldn't figure out with their tongue.   Some miracle.   

I'm wondering why the quran doesn't simply read "And btw, everything here comes from stellar furnaces in a long process of planetary formation".  God couldn't have written that?  Is that beyond his abilities as an author and populizer of science?  Some god.

You are the people positing that there are 'miracles' in your particular version of your holy book, and nobody you're conversing with has found that claim or any subsequent related claims convincing or indeed credible.

It's something that happens. Maybe it was happening to that particular sea, at the time... maybe it's just a rudimentary description of the interaction between the sweet and salt waters, like Aristotle did with his description of a projectile:


So many alternative natural explanations to how that thing is in the book... and you can only see the very unlikely supernatural option...

Unfortunately for Allah, the seas do mingle. The concept of "clines" (thermocline, pynocline, halocline) is well understood today, and was observable to ancient sailors. No matter though, because, while these clines do form a gradient, they are permeable and definitely allow "mingling". From the wiki page on pycnoclines:

Pycnoclines become unstable when their Richardson number drops below 0.25. The Richardson number is a dimensionless number expressing the ratio of potential to kinetic energy. This ratio drops below 0.25 when the shear rate exceeds stratification. This can produce Kelvin-Helmholtz instability, resulting in a turbulence which leads to mixing.[11]

The changes in pycnocline depth or properties can be simulated from some computer program models. The simple approach for those models is to examine the Ekman pumping model based on the ocean general circulation model (OCGM).[12]

Notice the bit about "turbulence which leads to mixing".

Below the mixed layer, a stable density gradient (or pycnocline) separates the upper and lower water which hinders vertical transport.[2] This separation has important biological effects on the ocean and the marine living organisms. However, vertical mixing across pycnocline is a regular phenomenon in oceans, and occurs through shear-produced turbulence.[3] Such mixing plays a key role in the transport of nutrients.[4]
