Actually the reverse was true. Jesus Pointed out to the Pharisees that their 'pop morality' had changed them so much they were no longer able too identify God in their mist. It what got Jesus Killed.

The Pharissees were the conservative Jews of their time, who were unhappy with Jesus because he preached a radically different interpretation of Jewish Law than that which had been observed for centuries by that point (at least, that's how they saw it). In other words, they thought he was preaching 'pop morality' and had him killed in an attempt to stop it.

Of course, both sides thought they were right. Because, y'know, morality is a subjective thing.

Doesn't everything happen according to "God's" plan?

Are you saying that the Pharisees went against "God's" plan? Shouldn't your god have know exactly what would get Jesus killed?

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

I thought I did, in presenting you with examples.

It's always the same with some of you. Not all, to be clear. Your major talking point is, without god's rulebook, we turn into selfish pricks. Which I find quite telling, since there's obviously some inner compulsion to be just that.

Same as with gay being a choice. And don't return with the truck driver story, if you please.

I don't know how such people can reconcile this with the fact that many (most?) atheists are not selfish pricks.

But I suppose we are anyway, even if we're not, just because we're atheists.

I don't feel like playing the game with you as regards the above, atm..I'll just tell people (yourself included) to go back and take a look at those posts to see how they took your comments.  It's not as if they disappeared from the boards.  That you momentarily find your shame, from time to time,  and reel against your own asshattery is your own problem.

That wasn't a 'your right Drich I did indeed cut one of your sentences in half (literally) and create my own narrative, because my 'morality' allows me to vilify you any way I want without restriction, once I judge you immoral.'

But, it's close enough, we all know what you meant, and your 1/2 ass back out also only add fuel to my argument. So check and mate. Big Grin

Am I teaching pop morality? or am I teaching against it?

Like wise was Christ teaching what was popularly beieved to be 'moral' or was he teaching against it.

You all represent the Established sense of what is thought by the culture to be right and wrong. Like wise so did the pharisees, by your own word.

How ever the saw it, the law given to moses did not list out the privilages and power, nor the burden placed on the people the leadership 'interpreted.'

The temple tax, was an excellent example (it's what pushed the pharisees over the edge) The leadership of the Jews told the people that their money and animal sacrifices were unclean, and that if they wanted to abide by the holy Scriptures and give to God what was required that they had to use 'santified temple money.' So in the money changers court yard dedicated follows of God, were made to pay a very high exchange rate for this temple money. yet the burden of the tithe remained the same. which means the people had to pay far more to the temple to pay their required tithe. This enraged Christ and is why he over turned the money changers tables, and chased them out with a whip. The money changers were Levitical priests, that Jesus labeled Thieves!

So again Jesus did not represent what was held as being moral, he showed the corruption in what was thought to be 'moral' and show those who enforced that morality as themselves being so corrupt that they no longer even knew who God was. Let alone be in the position to represent Him.

God's plan makes allowances for the wicked nature of man. He does not plan/force for man to be wicked.

What I am saying is 'we' with out God can not reliably identify Good or Bad. We see as 'good' to be something that benefits us. we see Bad as something harmful. However we can not see long term effects so we judge 'good and bad' on what we 'feel' the results of an action are right away. Rather than being to determine 'good or bad' on a larger long term scale.

So god could do literally anything, boil a baby and force feed it to its parents and because its god doing that it would be just Dandy coz god, is by default, good. And don't say that sort of thing would not happen because, lets face it, god has "form" for doing what we see as evil shit. turning a woman into a condiment for looking at, what was surely quite a spectacle, being one of the stranger ones. No this idea of yours is abhorrent and shows the paucity of what passes for thinking in some theists.
