Definitely no. To say everyone who serves is a hero is like saying everyone is above average.
Heroism definitely denotes exceptional, not also ran, performance.

I don't consider myself a hero. I just did a job. I never saw combat, except in bars and stuff like that. The word "hero" has to be taken with a grain of salt. At my old high school, some nimrod physics teacher was showing kids how to make rockets using alcohol as a fuel (illegal as hell, btw). One boy got seriously burned (because, being a thoughtless boy, adding a little extra fuel will make it go better, right?). People were calling him a hero. I'd say a hapless sap, but there you go.
If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.

No. I'll gladly take my VA benefits but in no way do I see myself as a hero.

It's been demoted to "submarine".

The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

I'm ambivalent about nationalism, patriotism and heroism. When I was 19, feeling mostly the same way I do now, I nonetheless resolved to go if my lottery number had been a low one - just because it wouldn't be fair to whoever had to go in my place if I fled or went C.O. Fortunately for my naive ass I drew something like 316.
But knowing what I know now, there is no way I would have gone. I wonder how many of those who served feel the same way now?

I'd do it again.
@OP Q, nah....plenty of dirtbags in the service who'd cower under fire and pick what was left of your pockets before they shipped you home.

I personally feel we put those who serve in the armed forces or in the police and fire department on a way to high of a pedestal. I mean, it's great that they're serving. It's a sacrifice, but they choose to.
*Just so you know, this has NOTHING to do with the recent story regarding the WLB and the Gold Star family. I just feel as if Americans have a cult like feelings when it comes to America.
Don't get out much, do you?
