Yeah, but which politician do you assume isn't  99% corruption?

Where I grew up, it was indeed normal, but there was nothing 'new' about it.

Come on, I'm about the least likely person to smoke pot that you've every encountered. Seriously. I just actually like his economic policy and think he believes in it. Obviously there's going to be some element of pandering to Republicans if that's his party, but I don't know what suggests that he isn't actually a libertarian (economically at least).

Seems authoritative.

His economic policy, is a trickle down flat tax (at 14% no less...Hike Hike Hike) that get's rid of affirmative action and labor unions while it drills..baby...drill....in national parks. Bonus, we can use all that created wealth to give handouts to christian charter schools..because who the fuck needs the DoE anyway, amiright?

You can't be a libertarian just economically. That just makes you conservative...

Conservatives often throw money out the window as well (war-mongering types like Bush).

Or they can just be bought by corporations. Like, in my own province we recently had a more conservative party in for 10 years or so and our taxes went up, environmental regulation down, more money to basically exclusively serve MNCs for resource extraction. I'm simplifying, but I don't actually see the correlation between lower taxes and conservatism play out in reality.

What do you have against Rand Paul? He's always been one of my favorite American politicians, definitely my favorite Republican.

Why, he couldn't run a lemon juice stall if you gave him the ownership of all the lemons in the world and a $1tn seed capital, he's that dumb.

What was his plan for being president, getting rid of government and letting the rich lord over the rest of us as their slaves? Yeah like that'd work, for about five minutes.

That sounds right up Rands alley. Don;t be fooled by the show-vote against DoD funding...he knows that will never amount to a thing. Besides, he'd rather give that money to Someone Else™ as long as that someone else isn't poor.

LOL.

He only beat Mitch's Chosen Son because he bitched about how the bank bailouts didn't give -Kentucky- banks any money.  As soon as he was done laying out everything that was wrong with McConnell and got the job he went and prostrated himself before the almighty turtle altar.

What specifically do you think would the problem with eliminating government? What comes to mind for me, in broad terms, is

a) businesses will externalize environmental and social costs of their practices (such as carbon emissions, safety standards for employees).
b) lack of protection of individual and property rights
c) large corporations using their money to engage in predatory competition (ie. using their capital to kill potential competitors before these smaller corporations have a chance to establish themselves). This is related to rich people using their money to keep poor people down, even intergenerationally.
d) a lack of conventions that benefit people at large and should be enforced (such as drivers licensing or laws against littering)
e) no funding or valuation of societal goods without a clear monetary value (such as the value of biodiversity - it's hard to reduce these kinds of things to a formula)

I think addressing those issues is the role of government - it takes a lot of regulation to have a functioning market economy. But ultimately I do agree with leavig most thing to the market and minimizing government, which is why on that issue I agree with Rand Paul.
