I'm a free trade advocate. It's just funny to see a bunch of people do a 180 on it just cause Trump opposes it. Even though Bernie Sanders and he are both basically protectionists.
I argee that there is a lot ironic about Trumps supporters. Working class people thinking a billionaire from New York is just the start of it. So don't go tossing that accusation at me. Especially when you can't see the irony of the former statement.

When did he support untrammeled free trade? Advocating not picking a trade fights with one’s chief creditor at the moment when one just ballooned one’s deficit, and when the other side is capable of retaliating in a way one is not equipped to withstand, is not the same as supporting totally free trade. When didn you starting teaching to defend trump while pretending to be smart enough not to?

I had no problem with NAFTA and even TPP was merely a recognition of the way the world is. Something that Trumptards apparently can never grasp. Those high-paying manufacturing jobs.... which were largely the result of unions pressuring employers.... were not coming "back." Modern factories here use robotics to an extent unimaginable to the morons who think the 1950's were the gilded age. It's the same with coal. Rather than learn new skills the coal miners dream of glory days from the 19th century. Natural gas has destroyed the coal industry. The sooner you get your head out of your ass and realize that there is no going backwards the better off you will be.

I'm just surprised that he's a free trade advocate is all. I'm not denying it to be true, just surprised, as it's not something I ever heard him speak passionately about until Trump was elected.

There are troglodyte protectionists, and out and out free traders whose may have a hidden agenda of profiting from shady practices while preventing these from being regulated, all in the name of free trade. But in between there are many different shades and subtle gradations.
So throwing the term protectionist or free traders around really illuminates nothing.

No. Libertarians may tend to be for freer international trade, there are many other positions they tend to advocate that can be obnoxious to other people who are for different principles also supportive of freeer international trade.
It is childish rethorical strategum, but one sadly accurately calibrated for the level of judgement commonly seen in Americans electorates, to lay sole claim to a creditable position that is by no means unique to one’s own political camp, and then implies inconsistency in others if they were to support this position while oppose the camp’s other positions.
