Why did the Jews lie about Jesus?

As we all probably know the book of "Matthew" ends that the Jews to "this very day" are spreading a lie that Jesus did not resurrect but that apostles stole the body:

I mean they seem very determined that they're even ready to pay large sums of money to keep the "lie" afloat.

Because they were competitors in the religious market place.   Same answer to the question in reverse.

They didn't need to lie. They didn't believe a word of it: their promised messiah was supposed to Make Judea Great Again, not plunge it into more internal crises.
They had a religion that was doing okay, and, what with Roman occupation, foreign governors, compliant local place-holders, imperial tithes, laws and taxes, insurgent factions destabilizing the region, getting people into trouble and staging doomed rebellions where everybody gets killed, the very last thing they needed was a Reformation.

I think it is rather interesting question here because we're talking about Jews who are supposed to be following those 10 commandments out of which one says "don't lie" so they will go against holy commandments and therefore against their own God, who is one motherfucking angry monster when Jews disobey him, just to hide that Jesus resurrected - I mean this just doesn't add up.
I mean is "Matthew" here trying to tell us that Jews turned their backs on Yahweh and don't care about him and started working for somebody else?

AND, it almost proves that the tale is pure fiction.  Seriously,"Matthew" - writing 70-ish years after the supposed events - did not say "and some of these soldiers confessed to ___ and showed the money, and others confirmed the tale".  If we were walking the streets in those days and some crackpot was on a soapbox saying "this guy you killed rose from the dead" we would probably say "yeah, these whackjobs hid the body" too.  Or more likely, (from our modern viewpoint) "so where is he?  Have him say hello or it didn't happen".  This "new sect" probably generated a lot of rumors, "Matthew" could just be whining about not being believed.
