What damage? Seriously, the claim has been made that Trump has damaged the US, but I have yet to be given an example.  The Hong Kong reference was given specifically to illustrate that a group of people still look to the US as the embodiment of individual rights and freedom. The fact that you don't get this or willfully ignore it is telling.

One would hope so, 100 years of global hegemony doesn't just vanish in a puff of orange smoke.  One wonders what people think Trump has done for them, though - and I guess that applies equally to the american heartland and hong kong?  

There's all this talk of how Trump is destroying democracy, but a vast majority of the democratic presidential candidates are promising unilateral provisions for free healthcare, student loan relief, gun confiscation, dismantling of the electoral college, etc. al.; unilateral authoritarian measures while proclaiming the sitting president is an authoritarian.  This makes zero fucking sense.

The president has repeatedly made the case..officially, in multiple court districts, that he is above the law.  Dems are running on a grab bag of policies they feel are important to their constituents.

I didn't vote for Trump or Clinton.  I would love to vote for someone besides Trump, but what fucking choice am I being given?  The only democrat that I will even consider voting for right now is Tulsi Gabbard, but she won't get the nomination.

You're being a given a choice of literally any candidate who isn't trump, or to not vote again.  I'll be doing the second thing, lol. If you vote for trump, that will be the choice you make..and you probably know that I'm not going to allow you to pretend otherwise. You don't have to justify your trump support to me, you couldn't. I'd just prefer that you not piss on either of our backs and call it rain while you do it. Deal?

This impeachment has absolutely no bipartisan support, unlike that for Johnson, Nixon and Clinton; and none of them were convicted and removed from office (Nixon resigned).  Wait until it goes to trial in the Senate and see what gets opened to investigation that should have been dealt with in the House.  It's going to be a shit show for Democrats.  The result will be a Trump landslide, a solid GOP majority in the Senate and the House will get flipped.  I have a hard time believing that Pelosi and Schumer are holding something back that is incriminating enough to change current opinion; meaning it can only get worse politically for the Democrats.

That's too bad, isn't it?  I wish that the rest of us could be tried for crimes on the basis of "bipartisan support".  Can't help it if the GOP are a bunch of feckless bastards selling out their country for short lived tax breaks, though.  That's their business. 

Anyway, if a thorough accounting of just one of the presidents many crimes causes some sort of trump-pocalypse at the polls...then we deserve a trump admin, as a country. At least he'll have won the vote, in that scenario.

The president of the united states tried to extort an ally, dangling military assistance during a hot war, for personal political gain. Then they covered it up. Then they lied about it, and about covering it up. You have no choice but to vote for that, do you? I bet theres a pillow in your house that would be more fit for office. Vote for your pillow instead. If you vote for scrotus, it's because you want him, you like his policies. You;re willing to trade whatever it is you don;t like about him or his policies...for the things that you do.

The first step is admitting that to yourself. Truth is, though, that the dems don't need our help, you and I. Hitlery didn't need it to wipe the floor with trump, and she was phenomenally unlikable. Hitlery didn't need our votes in spite of historic voter disenfranchisement and a very effective russian disinformation campaign. This idea of trump sweeping the vote is a fantasy. Ever wonder why you have fantasies like that? Fear or elation..and if it were fear...why would you help to make it a reality, as unlikely as it truly is?

Ultimately....though....go vote for a traitor and a thief. That's what democracy is all about - it's your vote to do with as you please.

If your Founders didn't expect good behaviour out of elected officials, why did they outline impeachment procedures?  The notion that a power-abusing president can only be removed from office via an election or resignation is insane.

That's a completely disingenuous argument. Boru references the Founding Fathers because their creation of the articles of impeachment are specifically relevant to this conversation. The fact that they supported slavery, to take one example, is not. Not to mention, I think people can see the difference in the morality of the articles of impeachment versus something like that of human slavery. Just a hunch.

-Well.....yeah, they can. That's the whole point. Still, seems pretty easy not to get impeached. 43 out of 45 presidents managed it.
