Kindly go frig yourself.

Right here, sir:
Quote:Because cops are human.

They are just as prone to violence, irrationality, prejudice and general assholedness as any other human being.

You are not going to " train that out of them".

If we could - it would make more sense to train the rest of the population into not being cunts - that need policing.

So, you are making the excuse that they are violent people and can't be trained and from all of your previous posts I can conclude that you don't think that abusive cops should be punished for their behavior.  This is your opportunity to make yourself clear.

Do you believe that we can recruit better people to be cops?

Do you believe that cops can be trained to behavior appropriately?

Do you believe that abusive cops should be punished for their crimes?

Your call, dildo.

No response from Online dildo.  Just what I expected.

You' re full of shit.

I met an idiot like you once - who convinced our command that " with proper training we can have zero typing errors".

Absolutely true.

We lost most of our days off to attend this guy's "training".

Fortunately he went section 8 and they threw his ass out of the service.

You can' t train people to perfection.

All you can do is have a system in place to clean up the mess when they' re done fucking up.

Or - you can mandate useless training and piss off the workers to the point they get sick of your bullshit and leave for greener pastures.

And you are entirely made of shit, 100%.

I met an dipshit like you once.  He couldn't reason himself out of a wet paper bag.

No, perfection does not exist, but training does and people's performance improves with training.  That's why athletes train so much.  The more they train, the better they get.

And you have already made multiple excuses for these bad cops, so clearly you don't expect or even want them to be held accountable.  If you do, just say so.  Currently they are protected from most of the things they do while on duty and that's the kind of thing we would like to see changed.

Just face it, your position is stupid.  You just like to hear yourself argue.  If you were ever the victim of a police abuse, you would be whining about it like a baby.

@onlinebiker Your hyper-focus on training is misplaced. Sure, training is important but it's not everything. The primary focus should be ending qualified immunity. Bad cops should be punished, and we all know there are bad cops. The cop culture needs to change as well and at the very top there are departments that thrive on abusing poor and minority communities. This is NOT my opinion, it is a matter of fact and has been reported on by many investigations. Policing does not and should not include corruption and brutality. A better force would be a more effective force. If you can't get behind that idea then you are just a dumbass.

Interesting reply with which I pretty much agree, although I could have done without the ad hominem. (tempting I know)

Oz has had its own  scandals. An ongoing one is black deaths in custody***. From my experience the police force has a lot in common with the army. The same toxic macho culture with dogmatic , conservative ideas about society, male-female relationships and politics.  I have no idea how that can be changed, but training isn't enough.

It's said you can't makes ilk purse from a sow's ear. As far as I can tell, neither the army nor the police forces anywhere attract the best and brightest. In fact a high IQ can be a disadvantage. Members need to follow orders and their training, not think about them.

Julius Sumner Miller.  Gee , you must be as old as I.  Very fond memories of his TV show. In Grade 7, I think, I did a class presentation based on things he'd taught. Got an A

Whenever I use the word curmudgeon I think of him, in the nicest possible way. That's two lifetimes away. Wouldn't want to relive them though.  "Nostalgia ain't what it used to be and never was" (Tarquin S Shagnasty) Strangely, the happiest I've ever been apart from now was in the army. Hated the army but loved my job as a medic. I've never had a better job. At the time , I was too homesick to realise how happy I was. Dodgy

And this is why I think what Biker really enjoys is violence being committed by the powerful on lesser people who at least aren't him. But, there seems to be at least some part of him that knows that this is honestly an indefensible position to take, so he just focuses on how all the training in the world won't make cops perfect, so why fucking bother, and he won't even address the question of whether A) we can recruit better people to be cops or B) that abusive cops should be punished for their crimes. Remember when Portland's entire riot squad quit because the cop in this video who hit the woman in the face with a baton got indicted?

He treated it as the consequence of police being held to impossibly high standards. And looking at the video of the incident, looking into what actually happened, and finding very little in the way of an alternate explanation, I'm left to conclude that Biker thinks not chasing, pushing to the ground, and hitting with a baton someone who apparently wasn't even a protester is just too astronomically high a standard to hold the cops to.

Maybe he'll read this and throw a hissy fit at my having the temerity to try and figure out what he actually believes from what he's posted, but what he won't do is actually concede any ground to you, and I'd honestly be shocked if he could actually find some evidence that what happened in that video could have been justifiable.

Yes, Julius Sumner Miller was an inspiration for me and one of the primary reasons I took an interest in science and math, leading to my career as an engineer.  I've watched his shows over and over and they never get old.

I'm not sure what OLB's actual beliefs are about policing.  He throws up a lot of dust about training not being the solution and impossible standards, then when I share a story about a clear cut case of police brutality he cries that he has never supported the idea of violent cops.  Go figure.  When people won't or can't be clear about what they think and believe, we are left to try and surmise such conclusions from what interactions we do have.  That video clearly shows a cop willingly abusing his power and committing violence for no purpose except that he decided he wanted to do it.  That is exactly the sort of thing that should be unacceptable to society and I can't for the life of my understand why that is remotely controversial.  Police literally have life and death power over citizens and if you happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, you could be subject to serious violence even if you have done nothing wrong except being in a cops eyesight.  It has happened and will continue to happen.  That's not a high standard at all.  It should be grounds for incarceration.  Unless I'm poorly informed, our armed forces have a higher standard than this for engagement.

And for the record, I generally only engage in ad hominems as a response to those directed at me first.  That seems to be the only language that OLB (I call him WLB) understands.  When you disagree with him, he feels that's grounds to call you a bastard or any other epithet he chooses.  Seeing that, it's understandable that he sides with violent cops.  Its really the same behavior.

RE: Send in the social workers.
The occurrence of violent protests where citizens, cops and bystanders are killed, regardless of who's doing the killing, is a very disturbing sign for our country. It signifies social and economic unrest that is usually reserved for banana republics and dystopian regimes. I think it is easy to write this stuff off to a small handful of crazies but it appears to go much deeper than that. Yes, a few of the participants are head cases who wear horned hats and scream at mirrors, but many of these people have no history of violence or aggressive behavior. These are signs that our country is tearing itself apart and I see nothing changing soon. At each change of administration, the opposing side immediately starts the rallying cry that the new guy is a criminal, baby killer who hates America. Sometimes one side is actually right about that. With a police force that has no respect for human life, this is a recipe for disaster.

To police brutality?  Yes, there are plenty of solutions that have been proposed.  Here is a good start:

https://www.livescience.com/evidence-pol...eform.html

To put a personal touch on this subject, in the summer of 2020 my wife and daughter attended a peaceful BLM protest. A few hundred protesters showed up. There were speakers and a moment of prayer and the event was sanctioned with a permit. Police were at the event, waiting and watching. There were zero incidents of violence or vandalism. In fact my wife described the event as somewhat quiet and reserved.

At the scheduled end time, people were beginning to disperse but the area was not fully vacated. Police began firing tear gas canisters into the area where people were standing. This resulted in people running away more quickly but a few were apprehended by police.

I trust my wife when she tells me these protesters were not violent, not even any shouting. So why did police fire tear gas when nothing was going on?
