Yes, Julius Sumner Miller was an inspiration for me and one of the primary reasons I took an interest in science and math, leading to my career as an engineer.  I've watched his shows over and over and they never get old.

I'm not sure what OLB's actual beliefs are about policing.  He throws up a lot of dust about training not being the solution and impossible standards, then when I share a story about a clear cut case of police brutality he cries that he has never supported the idea of violent cops.  Go figure.  When people won't or can't be clear about what they think and believe, we are left to try and surmise such conclusions from what interactions we do have.  That video clearly shows a cop willingly abusing his power and committing violence for no purpose except that he decided he wanted to do it.  That is exactly the sort of thing that should be unacceptable to society and I can't for the life of my understand why that is remotely controversial.  Police literally have life and death power over citizens and if you happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, you could be subject to serious violence even if you have done nothing wrong except being in a cops eyesight.  It has happened and will continue to happen.  That's not a high standard at all.  It should be grounds for incarceration.  Unless I'm poorly informed, our armed forces have a higher standard than this for engagement.

And for the record, I generally only engage in ad hominems as a response to those directed at me first.  That seems to be the only language that OLB (I call him WLB) understands.  When you disagree with him, he feels that's grounds to call you a bastard or any other epithet he chooses.  Seeing that, it's understandable that he sides with violent cops.  Its really the same behavior.

He will just insist we don't know what happened because "we weren't there" as he does with any video evidence. Then he will demand irrelevant evidence "show me the injuries! or else it didn't happen" it's just an excuse to not hold authorities accountable for their abuses of power.

And, ironically, given that he tends to hold fast to these positions even when all the available evidence seems to point in a different direction, it looks like he’s hell-bent on knowing even less than us. It’s one thing to use the argument when there’s two different narratives known and there’s some ambiguity about which ones actually true, but to do so when it all points in one direction simply reeks of a bad faith argument. This is a man with all the intellectual rigor of Sargon of Akkad and all the even-headedness (especially regarding gun issues) of Timothy McVeigh. Yup.  If soldiers acted like cops they'd be on the fast lane to a dishonorable discharge and felony conviction in a court with no presumption of innocence.  Our police force is a poorly trained occupying army that doesn't truly answer to civilian oversight. Seems like that might be a problem. Might wanna call up the guard to get these para-militaries dealt with.

In this particular case I have eye witness accounts from my wife and daughter.  A number of others reported the same thing and the event wasn't so big that it spread over a wide area.  It was only a few hundred people.  Of course there was no investigation.

We were told quite bluntly that the Australian Army does not take prisoners. I joined a combat battalion in Australia, beginning just before they returned from Vietnam.  I was able to verify that anecdotally, which I accepted.

Do you truly think that the My Lai massacre was one of?

 There's presently a case her where where Cpl  Ben Roberts-Smith VC, a six tour highest decorated war hero is being tried for war crimes in Afghanistan. He is suing for defamation.  I wasn't there, so I can't make an informed opinion. Killing some one in a war simply isn't the case of killing a civilian in ordinary life.

His case is the same as the US charging a winner of the Medal Of Honour with war crimes.

The US para militaries would learn very quickly not to take only small arms to a tank and Drone fight.

I don't think that anything that happens in a war is a one off - that ship sailed ten thousand years ago.   Still, I think that there's quite a bit of time and change in the us military between vietnam and today, I suspect that's true of the australian military as well.   It may be an interesting view from the outside, but it's very much a product of military indoctrination.

The police haven't declared war - but perhaps they should just to keep it honest.  There are alot of officers of the year that end up doing fucked up shit, as a direct analog.

Yeah, they're gonna have to get proficient quick.  I don't see it happening.  They've been subjected to a pretty aggressive advertising con with respect to their equipment and tactics.  It's not a war they want, it's a genocide.  They imagine themselves mowing down the hated other in city streets turned lawless hellholes, not fighting the us military.

Another angle to this issue of police brutality is that many municipalities use their police force as a revenue generator through the issuing of moving violations. In some cases the abuse is significant, where the cops issue more tickets than the city has residents. Millions of dollars are generated this way, and in some rare cases an angry motorist argues with the cop or even yells at him and gets dragged from his vehicle, cuffed and jailed with all sorts of made up charges. We are supposed to trust a government organization that does this? Of course, what area of town do these violations occur most? The poorer, darker skinned areas.

Forget trusting them. Never ever...ever...trust the armed man who holds the power of life and death over you with no meaningful oversight. Even if we cynically assume that some amount of violations comes down to the need for a profit center - how are they supposed to be that when judgements against bad cops are paid for by the city, rather than the cop?

So they wrote 100 tickets on single intersection the first day of the month - we paid out how much in claims against them? I want that money to go to streetlights staying on, not survivors of patently lawless abuse by the forces of law enforcement. They need to get serious about their fucking jobs, not some bullshit warrior fantasy that all of our taxpayer funding is going to.

There, I'd say that sending in social workers has a distinct advantage. Social workers are serious about their jobs as people whose jobs are under constant scrutiny would be. Cops..on the other hand, are the kind of people you couldn't sell a kirby vacuum to on account of how they have shit credit..but a dozen surveillance cameras at their roach coach apartments - mostly pointed at their wives.
