Who said guns were the cure for anything? I’m just pointing out that owning a gun doesn’t make you kill someone (which would be the case if ease of access was the chief problem).

It's insane. We actually had a period of three and a half years where school shootings didn't turn into mass murder. And it looks like that streak's been quashed.

Have you looked up a picture of the shooter? He doesn't look 15...he looks about 11. I was shocked. Maybe all that's out there are older photos but sheesh...this kid looks like he hasn't even reach puberty.

And, honestly, in my high school, I had weirder examples, like one boy who, even as he was graduating, didn't even look a day older than nine. I even had a teacher who looked like she hadn't hit puberty, even as she was pushing thirty. She was that short, her voice was that high-pitched, and if she was wearing a heavy winter coat that concealed her breasts (which wound up being most of the time), there was no real tell. It just looked like she was a fourth-grader who somehow found herself as the drama teacher in a boy's school. And who wound up flirting with a lot of the students (though I don't think she went full LeTourneau with any of the guys there). Notre Dame was weird.

That picture looks more like a 15 year old. I know that's an age when there's a wide range of physical maturity but I was stunned at the pics I pulled up earlier.

Apropos of this thread.
Could some one explain the logic of trying children as adults in the US?
In most developed countries, the concept of legal majority means a legal infant (under the age of majority) cannot be tried as an adult, no matter what crime has been committed.
This is the case in Australia, as well as in the PRC.
The age of majority in mainland China is 18. As far as I'm aware a person younger than 18 cannot be tried as an adult.

Development does not come on a rigidly fixed time scale. To say that someone 17 years and 350 days is not accountable for their actions but three weeks later would be is just silly.
Therefore they changed the laws to reflect the reality that some kids knew better - but committed an offense anyway.

Short version: America doesn’t charge children as adults unless they feel like it.

Boru And the funny thing is, while Biker has a point that some kids know better, it seems like the severity of the crime is more often a factor than the mental capacity of the child on trial.
