I should clarify. Yes you are right, you can have a that is efficient at detaining and diverting criminals. And I for one support such measures. But my point still stands. Someone has to a criminal before you detain them and for that to happen it means a crimes has taken place.  That meaning that if want a 100% crime free you would have to put people in jail when they have committed no crime.

Great movie. I was actually thinking of that movie making these arguments, and that scene right there perfectly demonstrates the moral delimma the movie posits.

My rights end where they begin to trample over someone else, and visa versa, of course. That being said, I seem to have misinterpreted where you were going with your point. I'm not arguing to penalize people before they commit a crime. This isn't quite a straw man yet, but I'm not going to argue the point that you seem to be aiming at me. I'm not sure where all of that came from, because it doesn't seem to belong in this thread.

You could theoretically prevent crimes before they happen as well as remove the need to jail the potential criminals.

What I was talking about before was the balance between freedom and safety. My point was two fold. In order for a society to be there must aways be some level of crime, however small, and that when you trade power to the government for safety, safety is not what you get. I think Parsons in 1984.

In my defense, I wasn't aware we were talking about fending off rapists at first, so I kind of fell into that one unprepared.

Yet still, I don't see how owning a gun would be such a bad idea for a woman who is concerned about her safety.
