Who in their right mind would believe that? I mean. Look at the way we're communicating! We can talk to each other from miles away! And we have the leisure time to do it! And we haven't died from the Spanish flu or polio!

God will get around to knocking down a skyscraper for that offense, eventually.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. That is not true at all. Not even close to the truth.
Sure, there are certain individuals that are worse off than they have ever been, but humanity?
Humanity is doing just fine.

I've been there as well. While I was there I didn't think to question the truth of that statement (the world is worse than its ever been.). It was just something that everyone knew intuitively.

Very weak! Not compelled to believe you, GC!
How could you know that. You know little about scripture and little about Christianity. More knowledge need by you to make such a claim. You were the one who said forgiveness is a concept by mine, so at best we would have an abstraction not an actual practice. Again you do not have to be compelled to believe me, you do need to be compelled to believe He who convicts you.

God and sin are concepts, as well.

It pleases me to see you have no argument against the post other than what you perceive as important. Others had no problem understanding my points, you just needed something derogatory to say and that was the best you had, you should find something else to waste your time on.

I don't really think we ARE worse off than we have ever been. By what metric are you measuring this? We've made great strides in science and medicine (no thanks to religion). What used to be a fatal illness 90% of the time is now treatable in a matter of days.
First off the discussion at hand is about sin, get on the right page. Second Christianity has contributed much to science, Christianity lead the way in education for centuries.
vulcan Wrote:We've more-or-less stamped out slavery. (No thanks to religion- Ephesians 6:5). Slavery used to be a worldwide affair, now it exists in dilute form in the third world, and advocacy groups make it harder and harder for the institution to operate.
There are more people in slavery today than there has ever been in the history of mankind. I do not know how you could dream up such a reply when most people in the world know this, especially those children sold into sexual slavery. Christianity is one of the leaders to stop this abuse of children.
vulcan Wrote:What if you are a child being sexually abused by a parent (or your priest)? You have hope now in this modern age where there is widespread awareness of such things. In the past, there was no recourse or outreach program to go to. People would be less prone to believe or help you.
I have no priest, I'm a Southern Baptist, familiarize yourself with this kind of thing. You say this and you ignore the sex slave trade of children, you should be ashamed of yourself. Where did you get your information that sexual abuse was as bad in the past as it is today?
vulcan Wrote:That's just to name a few things, GC. So I ask again: by what metric are you measuring things?
As the OP's title reads "sin" my man "sin."

(bolding mine)
Does God bear any responsibility for sending His screw up kid down and inspiring tens of thousands of schisms in His preferred religion ??
Seems like humanity as a whole might have been better served with a much less schism inspiring Savior.
Guess you'll have to wait till judgement day to find that answer.

It's just mind blowing how a bunch of self proclaimed geniuses can't even respond to my post as it was presented as an answer to the OP's title. I guess I do have an idea though. sin scares the hebegeebes out of each of you, as it should because one day you will have to give an account for every sin you are denying and you will not be let off the hook for ignorance because you claim to be so well educated, so smart.

Okay people I've answered all the post and do not intend to answer such a proliferation of posts again on this subject, I think I made it quite clear you all had no idea what the conversation was about when you responded, now that it's been made clear just take it as it is because I will not answer anymore post on this subject. You want Christians to get involved in more discussions yet you pull stunts like this one and push us away. This happens all to often to be coincidental. Then that might just be your intention.

God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

Christianty does not generally say you will be judged for your sins though, does it? You are judged on whether you are a Christian, and whether you asked Jesus for forgiveness.

Christianity has been overtaken by substitutionary atonement theories.
Worth noting, is that the earliest atonement theory asserted only that christ died to free us from satan's ownership. You still had the rest of your life to live "freed" from satan and pursuant sin would be judged, accordingly. The idea that christ covered it all, common among christians today..arose as a compromise among the clergy about the efficacy of christs death. Some asserted that it would be next to worthless if a god died and people could still end up in the pit.
