 Really humans are capable of change, then why is this planet and humanity as a whole are worse off than we have ever been. By the way sin is an action against God, when you commit an offensive action against another person you still have sinned against the God that loves that person. Forgiveness as a concept, really. A concept is an idea, notion or abstraction, in other words it's not real. Forgiveness is real and it is from God and a part of us as we are created to be in the image of God. Yes like me you are a sinner, the difference in us is I'm forgiven by the grace of God and that is a most awesome thing.

I've been there as well.  While I was there I didn't think to question the truth of that statement (the world is worse than its ever been.). It was just something that everyone knew intuitively.

 How could you know that. You know little about scripture and little about Christianity. More knowledge need by you to make such a claim. You were the one who said forgiveness is a concept by mine, so at best we would have an abstraction not an actual practice. I don't really think we ARE worse off than we have ever been. By what metric are you measuring this? We've made great strides in science and medicine (no thanks to religion). What used to be a fatal illness 90% of the time is now treatable in a matter of days.

First off the discussion at hand is about sin, get on the right page. Second Christianity has contributed much to science, Christianity lead the way in education for centuries.

We've more-or-less stamped out slavery. (No thanks to religion- Ephesians 6:5). Slavery used to be a worldwide affair, now it exists in dilute form in the third world, and advocacy groups make it harder and harder for the institution to operate.

There are more people in slavery today than there has ever been in the history of mankind. I do not know how you could dream up such a reply when most people in the world know this, especially those children sold into sexual slavery. Christianity is one of the leaders to stop this abuse of children.

What if you are a child being sexually abused by a parent (or your priest)? You have hope now in this modern age where there is widespread awareness of such things. In the past, there was no recourse or outreach program to go to. People would be less prone to believe or help you.

I have no priest, I'm a Southern Baptist, familiarize yourself with this kind of thing. You say this and you ignore the sex slave trade of children, you should be ashamed of yourself. Where did you get your information that sexual abuse was as bad in the past as it is today?

That's just to name a few things, GC. So I ask again: by what metric are you measuring things?

I guess I do have an idea though. sin scares the hebegeebes out of each of you, as it should because one day you will have to give an account for every sin you are denying and you will not be let off the hook for ignorance because you claim to be so well educated, so smart.

Christianty does not generally say you will be judged for your sins though, does it? You are judged on whether you are a Christian, and whether you asked Jesus for forgiveness.

Christianity has been overtaken by substitutionary atonement theories.  

Worth noting, is that the earliest atonement theory asserted only that christ died to free us from satan's ownership.  You still had the rest of your life to live "freed" from satan and pursuant sin would be judged, accordingly. The idea that christ covered it all, common among christians today..arose as a compromise among the clergy about the efficacy of christs death. Some asserted that it would be next to worthless if a god died and people could still end up in the pit.
