And that is to stop visiting the Vatican. Tourists who have trips planned, cancel them. Do something else in Rome instead. People who attend mass there, go somewhere else. They will see it for themselves, and will suffer much more direct monetary effect from it.

I see, it's up to someone else in the religion to do something.

My point of view is that every catholic who has an issue with the abuse needs to stand up and be heard, preferably with actions, not just words. How long have we heard words with no effect?

I'm not saying it is up to someone else. I don't have a trip to the Vatican planned, but if I did, you better believe I'd cancel it. And sorry, but I don't think running down our local parishes is going to bring about any good. It has nothing to do with me wanting or not wanting to do anything, since all you are suggesting I do is not give them money. That would be easy, and if I thought it was a good idea, I'd have no problem using the money for lunch instead.

At mass this past Sunday, our priest encouraged us to raise awareness. Talk about the issue. Don't ignore it or pretend it didn't happen. He also provided a list of people we should send letters to, asking for investigations and more transparency.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

Awesome, a dead letter box..I'm sure that'll work, lol.

I have a suggestion that doesn't depend on catholics doing what everyone should know they won't, by now. Cut off the billions in kiddie diddler welfare that our federal and state governments funnel through their criminal organization.

Would't it be great to just make them what Jesus did according to the tale? Alas, we moved from such barbaric means. Saint francis. Lel.

Either the church gets in front of this, or it be enraged non-Catholics with pitch forks and torches, and they aren't going all the way to Rome . . . .
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

The local parish(s) need to start hurting and know the reason why. I suggest that all of your congregation not donate money and tell the priest exactly why. If this happens in enough parishes then you might see some actual action to stop the abuse.

And what exactly is your priest(s) doing about it? Have they spoken up? Have they written letters, not asking, but demanding action? Have they stopped donating the 8 to 10  percent to the diocese/church hierarchy?

Great, talk, plus more church investigations and transparency. How well has this worked so far? I'll tell you, not at all. I'll bet he didn't suggest writing your state attorney generals office.

Sure.  Punch every bishop/archbishop/cardinal and pope right in the fucking mouth.  They are all either guilty themselves or stood by silently while others did.  Let's hear the old pervert bastards rattle on about fucking jesus while nursing broken jaws.

Baa-aaa-aaa. Never happen. The only time I ever heard a peep out of a priest was in the early '90, where his sermon was, at the bottom of it, "It wasn't me!". The RCC has committed so many atrocities over its lifetime that I suspect the people in the power structure just laugh at the rest of us. How many centuries did it take just to admit their shit about Galileo!?

The church needs to be smacked down good and hard.  An excellent start would be for nations to dispose of this absurd notion that the fucking vatican is a country.  It's a church...and a particularly corrupt and vile one.

If this is the real, correct version of the real religion, why the fuck would they even need donations? Won't God provide for his own churches and the people who go there?

Won't he at least oversee the safety of the children left to his holy men?

Why does he value the free will of the abusers over the free will of the victims?

I loved Pope Francis' gentle nature and how forgiving and non judgemental he was, but he has taken it too far. These are times when we need something different. I don't care how harsh the next Pope is, so long as he is someone who is going to show 0 tolerance for abuse and cover ups, as that is the first priority right now.

Only a person with a big fat ignore list on reality can say that. You're obviously very clueless about the crimes Catholic Church has been committing. Like sanctifying Pope Paul 2 who protected pedophiles. Now, maybe Catholics can forgive him that, but outsiders will always look at you as fundamentally wrong.

Or not to mention other crimes which show how fundamentally corrupt Catholic church is

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
