Lek, Do you believe that there was talking dog running around Palestine (see below) during the mid-1st century? If so, do you believe that it was possible, in a way unknown to them, that Hanna-Barbera were divinely inspired to create the characters that they did, and, perhaps, God being omnipotent, the dog, being quite tall (per the Scriptures), was, in fact, a Great Dane, and that his name, when anglicized from the original Aramaic was that which we fondly remember him during our time? Maybe the original Apostles have their equivalents with Daphne, Fred, Velma, Shaggy, etc.? After all, "With God, nothing is impossible, right?" And, so, what say you?!

Writers of Genesis wrote down what some people believed at the time how the world began, and it came about from speculations. People were speculating on how the world began but we know now that they were wrong, and that the means they were using were faulty.
And it even wasn't the only story of how the world began, not even for the Jews, but someone chose the one in the Bible and proclaimed it a canon.

Now when it comes to other stories in OT, they are just legends, like stories about Robin Hood, King Arthur, Joe Magarac, Ganesha, etc. Are they just lies? Someone was obviously lying. And why should stories of Joe Magarac be less valuable than those in the OT? They are both equally "truthful".
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Modern cosmology is just another narrative about how the world began, but it relies on the fact that a finite speed of light allows us to peer back in time, so it is a bit more solid than speculation.  Call it part of a constant improvement cycle.  Mythology is ISO 9000 compliant.

LinuxGal, you disappoint me!

The FLRW model made a testable, falsifiable prediction, namely, the existence of the CMB. It is much more than a "just so" story about how the Universe began.

Yes, on another thread we've disagreed about how solid a model explaining evidence can be. I'm not saying there's anything to Popperism (heck, the daily horoscope is falsifiable, that doesn't make it scientific) but we've got data, and we've got models that explain the data, and our models approach the way things are as a limit. They never get all the way there.

Some proposed scientific models are simply wrong:

This is what makes scientific analysis different from other modes of human thought. In the area of cosmology, few scholars hold to the Steady State hypothesis; ditto for the multiregional theory of human evolution.

I'll repeat what I said before. The OT is the story of a group of people awaiting a messiah sent from God. It is written in a form that was extremely common for the time and can be seen in writings from other cultures of the time. Christians believe that Jesus is that promised messiah. I know that many Christians believe that it's all literally true and I don't agree. Anyway, reading the Bible won't make anyone a believer. The only way to know God is for God to reveal himself to you. It's the same as me giving you multiple facts to show you that you are not female. You know that you are.

You have no facts that show her she's not female. Just like you have no facts to support your book of fairytales.

No one should care "who" or "what" I am. Unlike God, I can "pass" as a biological woman.
