Less anger towards religion
#11
RE: Less anger towards religion
Both religion and physical phenomenon such as gravity exist as result of deep seated mechanisms.     Religion is anartifact of underlying cognitive mechanism, and gravity is a fundamental attribute of the physical universe.   Hating religion is like hating the human gene pool, much as hating gravity is like hating the universe.     Rather than hating either, one could much more productively focus on circumscribing the ability of  either to cause damage to the human enterprise too readily, sort of like putting guard rails and danger signs around places where the unwary could accidentally succumb to gravity, or bullshit signs around places where the unwary can succumb to the lure of religion.

to further extend the analogy, what I despise is not gravity, nor the phenomenon of religion,  but those people who gleefully rip out guard rails and danger signs from where the unwary could easily succumb to gravity, and the people who gleefully strive to rip down bullshit signs around religion.

I used to despise atheists, but I have come to realize that one can be atheist and be a moral person. The only way to save the nation is to come together. I still think we'd be better off if we all believed in God.

Not interested in coming together with you, or your god. Yet another problem with our current crop. They feel like they should get consolation prizes for their superstitions and failed coup attempts. The prize being other people hold their nose and let them back in, apparently.

Now if only believers would stop trying to inject their beliefs into our laws. You'd like us to come together? Tell your brethren to stop pushing people apart using the law as the pry-bar.

I still despise religion and the church, but no longer I inform myself about it or dedicate much thought to it. My interest has shifted toward capitalism instead.

Anyone relates? God speed

I'm a lot less angry about it now than I used to be... but I think that was just stuff I needed to work through when coming out of religion, so to speak. Being a Brit, religion doesn't affect me that much, apart from within my own family, but if I was living in America, where religion, and its influence, is in everything, then I'm sure I'd feel a lot more angry. As it is though I'm not interested in arguing it much anymore... it seems futile to me if nothing else. But that said I do admire the patience if nothing else of those who do keep up the good fight, but it's not for me, any more.

Too late to edit but this could've been worded better; the second 'if nothing else' shouldn't really be there, not just grammatically but also meaningfully... that is to say I admire the fighters for more than just their patience, but as it was worded it kind of downplayed that a bit.

Laws to restrict abortion are based on human rights, starting with the right of a human being not to be killed by the intential acts of other human beings.

No, they aren't.  Unless the human who has the rights is anyone other than the woman.

At this point, there is danger of a woman being investigated for illegal activity when experiencing a miscarriage.  And woman will die from ectopic pregnancies...but I suppose gawd is good with that...it being his will and all that nonsense.

Seriously, a person who professed to believe humans are sinners at birth, and approve of the alleged consequences of not feeling the need to be saved, by a would be deity who is alleged to have generously spawned himself by knocking up his own mother no less, from the alleged consequences violating a imaginary dictate with no discernible merit generations ago, could not speak of any belief in human rights without eliciting howls of ridicule.

And the very concept of laws had not been tainted by age old barbarous primitive tradition of the arbitrary overreaching dictates of some imaginary despotic Yahweh, then it would have defined Human in a much more intelligently and realistically nuanced manner.

What's interesting, is that the notion that anti abortion restrictions are based on human rights is a sop. Theyre explicitly sought out as a part of effecting gods kingdom on earth and no one in that business is even remotely shy about saying so - but I guess the "good ones" only need the perception...of a fig leaf... to cover their shame?

Truth is, to be fair - it's unrealistic to expect people to keep their firmly held beliefs in their pants when it comes to politics. That's always been more of a fantasy than an achievable goal.

Oh, looky. A thread with the word 'religion' in the title has been turned into an abortion thread by a Christian.

Now, THERE'S a surprise...
